Harris County will host 24 community engagement meetings between Sept.19-Oct. 20 to inform voters and gather input on the $1.2 billion bond, which commissioners voted 3-2 on Aug. 18 to place on the November ballot.

Sixteen of the 24 meetings will be held in person with eight meetings held virtually, according to a news release from the Harris County Office of the County Engineer. Residents can view the dates, times and locations of the meetings and submit comments on https://harriscounty2022bond.org.

The four precincts will host four meetings each, providing an opportunity for residents to learn about the three bond propositions and give input on how bond funding could be used.

“The input we receive from the community on this bond program is critical as it will help each precinct identify and prioritize projects if the bond propositions pass,” County Engineer Milton Rahman said in the release. “This is a great opportunity for the community to tell us, for example, specifically where they feel new parks or sidewalks are needed or if there is a road or neighborhood drainage issue that needs to be resolved.”

Representatives from the county departments will host the meetings but are not allowed to encourage voters to vote for or against the bond, Rahman told Community Impact Newspaper. Voters can approve or reject any or all of the three propositions on the ballot, which includes one for $100 million for public safety facilities, a second for $900 million in road funds and a third for $200 million of parks projects.
