Intuitive Machines is getting an additional 3 acres of land at Houston Spaceport, along with a lease extension, that officials said will help the aerospace business implement a $12 million expansion.

Houston City Council approved the amendment to an agreement between Houston Airports and Intuitive Machines at its July 16 meeting, according to a news release from Houston Airports.

The new land will allow for Intuitive Machines to expand, which will include new production, testing and various support facilities, according to the release.

Officials hope the expansion will eventually service commercial and government entities, according to the release.

In addition to the additional land, the amendment also extended Intuitive Machines’ lease agreement from 20 years to 25 years, according to city documents.

Houston Airports Director of Aviation Jim Szczesniak in the release described the partnership as a “forward-thinking development.”

“This agreement reinforces Houston’s leadership in space innovation,” he said.

Houston City Council member Fred Flickinger said he was excited for the expansion.

“We’re starting to reach a critical mass out there—more and more aerospace companies want to be at the [Houston] Spaceport because that’s where innovation is happening,” he said.
