About the program

The Houston First Corporation started Houston Theater Week in 2022 as a way to promote and celebrate live theater and performing arts in the city. The program began with offering BOGO tickets to 77 shows across 18 professional performing arts organizations.

This year's number more than triples the amount of performances and nearly doubles the amount of participating organizations.

“A dynamic performing arts community is one of Houston’s strongest assets and is certainly a valuable selling point when marketing our destination," Michael Heckman, Houston First Corporation president and CEO said. "As some performing arts organizations in other parts of the country struggle to stay afloat, Houston is fortunate to have a thriving industry that is vital to the city’s economy. We expect Theater Week to help us keep it that way."

Heckman said Houston Theater Week has generated more than $1.5 million in ticket sales revenue since its inception.

Notable quote

Hillary Hart, executive director of Theater Under the Stars, said the promotional event makes a difference for both arts organizations and theater-goers.

"Not only does the revenue generated through ticket sales keep artists and other creative professionals working, it strengthens our already vibrant theater scene and exposes new audiences to a range of cultural performances by some of the best talent in the world at a discount," she said.
