Baylor Scott & White adding third clinic to handle rising demand in primary care

Baylor Scott & White Health will expand its Georgetown-area footprint later this summer when its third primary care clinic in the city opens on W. Hwy. 29 near Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

Colleen Sundquist, Baylor Scott & White Health’s vice president of clinic operations in the Austin/Round Rock area, said the health system’s existing Georgetown clinics ­— located at 1507 Rivery Blvd., Georgetown, and near Sun City at 4945 Williams Drive, Georgetown — are operating near capacity.

The third clinic, which is under construction at 7451 W. Hwy. 29, Georgetown, is needed to meet the demand of the city’s growing population. It also opens additional access for Baylor Scott & White to serve patients in west Georgetown, Leander and Liberty Hill, Sundquist said.

“We have seen tremendous (patient) growth in our current Georgetown locations, and we knew that we wanted to move a little farther west from our current locations to provide services to the entire community,” Sundquist said.

Between its two existing clinics, Baylor Scott & White has 22 health care providers in Georgetown, she said. Two providers already in Georgetown will relocate to the new clinic: one family medicine doctor and another physician who works in pediatrics.

The new clinic will include 13 exam rooms as well as a treatment room. The clinic will offer family medicine, pediatric and internal medicine care as well as diagnostic X-ray and on-site laboratory services, according to Baylor Scott & White Health.

Sundquist said patients at Baylor Scott & White Health clinics benefit from the provider’s integrated model for storing and accessing medical records. The model allows primary care doctors to share patient information with specialists within the health system’s network.

“So if your primary care doctor has to refer you to a cardiologist, the cardiologist will know exactly what medications you’re on, (and) they will know your whole entire medical history,” Sundquist said.
