Georgetown ISD voters are deciding whether to approve a tax rate increase of $0.09 to the district’s maintenance and operations tax rate.
The district’s M&O tax rate—which pays for daily operating costs like salaries and textbooks—would increase from $0.6931 to $0.7831 per $100 valuation if Proposition A passes.
In June, GISD officials cut the district’s interest and sinking rate—which pays for bond debt—by $0.03 from $0.3575 to $0.3275 per $100 valuation. The gist
If Proposition A passes, the annual school district tax bill for the median homeowner with a homestead exemption will rise by $7.97. Despite the proposed tax rate increase, the median home's property value has decreased by $16,629 since 2025, according to the district.
GISD called a tax rate election Aug. 18 to raise revenue to increase staff pay. While the district states the tax rate increase will raise $17.5 million in additional revenue, about $8.4 million will remain in GISD due to recapture.
With this revenue, district leaders say the VATRE will provide funding for 3.5%-4% pay increases for teachers and 3% for all other staff, which includes custodians, bus drivers, nurses and other support positions.
What else?
If Proposition A fails, GISD officials would need to find other ways to provide pay raises. These strategies could include increasing class sizes, reducing student programming, cutting field trips and reducing non-classroom staff, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
During early voting, 49.68% of registered voters in Williamson County cast their ballots, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
