What we reported
Developer Sam Ware is making a bid to redevelop Plano’s aging Collin Creek Mall, a struggling property that at one point last year sported 50 empty storefronts. Ware’s Dreien Opportunity Partners unveiled plans for a $1 billion project to convert the property into a mixed-use development with multifamily residential, retail and entertainment components.
The latest
Since that time, Dreien has moved to obtain as many as possible of the mall’s properties, which had portioned out between a number of different owners. Although the city of Plano is not directly involved in the sale, Director of Special Projects Peter Braster said they have been in discussions with Ware’s company, which is the only developer actively pursuing plans for the property.
What’s next
The city expects more discussions with Dreien to commence in late January or early February. As of this paper’s print deadline, the developer was still doing its due diligence on the site, Braster said.
