1. Mark Hill wins race for Frisco mayor
Frisco residents elected Mark Hill as the next mayor during the June 13 runoff election.
With all precincts reporting in Collin and Denton counties, Hill garnered a majority of the votes against Rod Vilhauer.
Hill earned 19,632, of 58.12% over Vilhauer's 14,146, or 41.88%
The runoff follows the May 2 election where no one earned over 50% of the initial vote, which led to the top two vote getters to face off in June. On May 2, Hill received the most votes with 34.64%, and Vilhauer trailed with 31.42%.

2. New public transportation available in Frisco's Rail District
Frisco launched its new transportation service for the Rail District.
The vehicles are called the Rail District Boxcar, and the service is free, according to a city news release. The service is available within the rail district and has 13 stops stretching from World Cup Way to North County Road between Main and Elm streets.

3. 7 places to watch FIFA World Cup games in Fort Worth
The 2026 FIFA World Cup commenced with Mexico winning the first of the 104 World Cup games June 11. The first game at Dallas Stadium was June 14, with the Netherlands playing Japan.
For soccer fans in Fort Worth, there are a few places hosting watch parties throughout the city, including a couple in north Fort Worth. This list is not comprehensive.

4. Prosper ISD, Celina ISD outpace state in end-of-course exams
The Texas Education Agency released results from this year’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness end-of-course exams, the year-end exam issued to high school students each spring.
Students in Prosper ISD and Celina ISD outperformed students across the state in every subject, according to test results.

5. Plano City Council approves $8.5M for traffic light vehicle detection upgrades
Citywide traffic signal upgrades are coming to Plano after officials approved $8.5 million to go toward new vehicle detection systems at a meeting June 8.
The new systems will be installed at 284 intersections across Plano for traffic signals to recognize when vehicles are stopped at an intersection.
Detection systems help prevent unnecessary delays in traffic, according to city documents. The upgrades will also improve signals, support more reliable traffic flow and reduce maintenance costs for outdated and failing equipment.
6. The Pub offers craft cocktails, burgers in downtown McKinney
When the previous owners decided to sell The Pub in downtown McKinney, Jimmy Karalla said he wasn’t interested until he visited the business on a Saturday night.
When he walked through the doors, almost every table was full, there was a live band playing classic rock and Karalla said his first thought was: “I love this place."
“Walking in, it just seemed so comfortable,” he said.
The Pub offers a wide selection of craft beer and whiskey, as well as cocktails like The Pub Strawberry Lemonade, which includes homemade simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, strawberry puree and strawberry vodka topped with ginger beer.
