The Texas Education Agency released results from this year’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness end-of-course exams, the year-end exam issued to high school students each spring.
Students in Prosper ISD and Celina ISD outperformed students across the state in every subject, according to test results.
By the numbers
Students were tested on the following subjects:
PISD saw over 90% of students receive a passing grade in each subject, and CISD saw at least 80% of students pass across the board.
Despite statewide gains in every subject compared to last year, both districts still performed better than the state as a whole.
Why it matters
The STAAR is administered to students in grades 3-12 each spring to measure student progress and teacher performance.
Students who don’t pass one or more subjects on the STAAR receive accelerated instruction the following school year, according to state law.
Poor STAAR scores can also impact the district as a whole.
The TEA’s annual accountability ratings are largely based on STAAR scores. If a district or individual school receives a failing accountability rating for multiple consecutive years, the state can take control of the district.
What parents should know
Parents can view their child’s individual score at texasassessment.gov using a unique access code distributed by their child’s school.
STAAR results for grades 3-8 will be posted June 16, according to the TEA.
