The city of Richardson will operate facilities on a modified schedule through Feb. 25 due to severe winter weather.

Seven city facilities will delay their regular opening hours to 10 a.m. Feb. 25. These include the Heights Recreation Center, the Huffhines Recreation Center, the Huffhines Tennis Center, the Richardson Municipal Court, Richardson City Hall, the Richardson Gymnastics Center and the Richardson Senior Center.

The Richardson Animal Shelter, the Charles W. Eisemann Center and the Richardson Public Library will operate under normally scheduled hours.

The Richardson Civic Center will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. to host early voting activities for Dallas County.


Sherrill Park Golf Course and the Richardson Bush Central Barkway will remain closed until weather conditions allow for safe operation.

Solid waste collection will run as scheduled Feb. 25. Collection of Thursday recycling routes will be made up on Saturday, Feb. 26. For up-to-date information on solid waste collection, visit www.cor.net/servicedelays.

Street maintenance crews from the public services department will continue to sand area roadways as needed. Additionally, the lobby of the Richardson Police Department, 200 N. Greenville Ave., is still being designated as a warming center for those who lose power at their residences. The facility will be open 24 hours a day until it is no longer needed.

The city of Richardson is enacting winter weather protocol due to harsh icy conditions expected to last in the metroplex until Feb. 25, according to a statement.

The following facilities and entities will operate on a modified schedule, with facilities closed at 5 p.m. Feb. 23 and remaining closed or with reduced hours of operation Feb. 24.

  • Solid waste collection, including trash, recycling, and brush and bulky item pickup, is suspended Feb. 24. Collection on these routes will be made up Feb. 26, according to the city. For up-to-date information on solid waste collection, visit www.cor.net/servicedelays.

  • The Huffhines Tennis Center, the Richardson Gymnastics Center and the Richardson Senior Center will be closed Feb. 24. Additionally, several city facilities will be open during limited hours from noon-5 p.m. on Feb. 24. These include the animal shelter, the Charles W. Eisemann Center, the Heights Recreation Center, the Huffhines Recreation Center, the Richardson Municipal Court, Richardson City Hall and the Richardson Public Library.

  • All Feb. 24-25 due dates are extended to 5 p.m. on Feb. 28. Feb. 24 court dockets and hearings are rescheduled to March 3 at the same docket time. Residents may contact the court to confirm the status of their case at 972-744-4500 or online at www.cor.net/court.

  • The Richardson Bush Central Barkway dog park and Sherrill Park Golf Course are both closed until weather conditions allow for safe operation.

  • The lobby of the Richardson Police Department, 200 N. Greenville Ave., has been designated as a warming center for those who lose power at their residences. The facility will be open 24 hours a day until it is no longer needed.


Street maintenance crews from the public services department are working 12-hour shifts due to the winter weather. When ice builds up and causes dangerous driving conditions, crews spread sand over several high-priority areas, including bridges, major roads, intersections and hospital driveways.
