1. TxDOT updates Richardson council on US 75 HOV lane project
Richardson drivers may have noticed a change in traffic patterns on US 75—and more changes are coming, according to a TxDOT presentation given to Richardson City Council.
During the Jan. 27 meeting, TxDOT Collin County Area Engineer Jennifer Vorster updated council on a project to replace the high-occupancy vehicle lanes on US 75 with what the department calls “technology lanes.”
“What that means is that for 22 hours a day ... you’ll be able to use [the HOV lane] as a lane for everybody,” Vorster said. “[The HOV lane] will function as a fifth lane.”
2. Richardson Main Street reconstruction second phase to be begin soon
Richardson residents can expect traffic congestion as Phase 2 of the Main Street reconstruction project begins Feb. 17, according to the city’s website.
Road work will extend from Greenville Avenue to about 150 feet east of Abrams Road, and is expected to be completed by early fall, according to a presentation at a Feb. 6 open house for the project.
3. Spring Valley Road, Abrams Road construction set to begin in Richardson
Construction at Spring Valley Road and Abrams Road is set to begin soon, with Richardson City Council approving a contract bid at the Feb. 17 meeting.
The contract for the intersection improvements for $1.173 million include removal of existing northbound and southbound lanes right-turn slip lanes, which was recommended by a study of the intersection. A slip lane allows traffic turning right to separate from through traffic at an intersection.
4. Greenville Avenue lane closed until September in Richardson
Drivers on Greenville Avenue in Richardson can expect a lane closure for the next several months.
Work to replace two utility poles at the corner of Greenville Avenue and Polk Street is currently under way, according to a news release from the city.
5. 2 road projects begin, close lanes in Richardson
Richardson motorists may experience lane closures as two road projects begin.
The right lane of eastbound Arapaho Road between US 75 and Plano Road may be closed in segments as sideway repairs have begun. The work is expected to be completed in mid-April, according to a news release from the city.
Additionally, fiber optic installation also began on Shiloh Road. As a result, the right lane of southbound Shiloh Road, extended 400 feet north and south of Breckinridge Boulevard. Work is expected to be completed in June.
