Frisco ISD has begun exploring a potential bond package that could go before voters in May 2027.
The district’s bond process will begin with community focus groups and the formation of a bond planning committee, according to a Sept. 10 district news release. Frisco ISD voters last approved a $691 million bond package in 2018.
What’s happening
According to the release, a bond planning committee consisting of approximately 100 stakeholders—including parents, students, residents, business representatives, community leaders, chamber members and board-appointed representatives—will be formed in the coming weeks.
The committee will study the district’s needs and make recommendations that could help shape a potential May 2027 bond package, the release states. Applications to serve on the committee will be accepted Sept. 14-25, with work beginning in late October.
The release did not specify funding or bond priorities for 2027.
Bond history
FISD voters last passed a bond in 2018, which funded facility renovations, technology upgrades, new school construction and safety enhancements. The 2018 bond funds are expected to run out in 2027.
In 2024, FISD voters rejected a proposed $1.08 billion bond. Funding would have covered a refresh of 20 campuses, the construction of a new Staley Middle School, technology upgrades, new school buses and district vehicles, general maintenance and the construction of a tennis center.
Bonds generally fund long-term capital investments, while the district’s maintenance and operations budget covers regular operating costs.
Also of note
FISD’s bond planning committee will meet seven times through January 2027. Its work will culminate in a recommendation to the FISD Board.
“We want to listen carefully to our community and make sure different perspectives are part of this process,” FISD Superintendent Todd Fouche said in the release. “At the same time, our schools and facilities have real needs that must be addressed. Our responsibility is to bring those together in a disciplined, financially responsible plan that protects the quality Frisco ISD residents expect.”
