According to the city’s project map, work includes paving reconstruction along Main Street, which is expected to cost more than $6 million.
Two-minute impact
City Manager Don Magner said the projected cost for the project is $6.5 million with funding sourced from both Dallas County grants and funds from a tax increment financing reinvestment zone.
Construction will include paving, drainage improvements and landscaping, according to city documents. Work will take place starting at the intersection of Greenville and Main, extending just beyond the road’s intersection with Abrams Road.
Per the project map, bids for the project closed Oct. 15, and Richardson City Council is expected to award a construction contract in November or December.
Some context
This is the second phase of a project along Main Street within the city’s Core District, which includes the Chinatown, Downtown, Heights, Interurban and Lockwood neighborhoods. Previous construction along Main Street, which had a cost of $21 million, wrapped up in mid-2021.
The city has also invested in other Core District infrastructure with the $1.8 million construction along McKinney Street and the development of Interurban Park, which had a cost of around $5 million.
Looking ahead
Based on city documents, construction is expected to take six months once it is underway. Magner said construction will likely begin in early 2025.
