Officials are closing a portion of Hillcrest Road beginning Jan. 25 for construction on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Silver Line project.

The gist

During the closure, crews will construct a grade-separated rail crossing at Hillcrest for the 26-mile commuter rail. There will be no access to Hillcrest Road between McCallum Boulevard and Wester Way during the project.

Detours will direct traffic to Coit Road on the east and Preston Road on the west. Access will be limited from McKamy Boulevard. Dallas Fire-Rescue and Dallas police will have emergency access at several locations across the construction site.

DART officials have been in regular contact with city and school district officials in Plano and Richardson. Hillcrest Road is located near Dallas’ border with Richardson. Some neighborhoods in the area are zoned for Plano ISD.

“While we understand that this temporary road closure will be an inconvenience to commuters and the adjacent community, public safety will always be our primary focus,” DART Chief Development Officer Dee Leggett said in a statement. “Due to the limited work area and the extent of excavation necessary, we’re taking every possible precaution for the safety of drivers, pedestrians and our construction teams. Our goal is to complete construction safely and quickly, so we can get traffic on Hillcrest Road back to normal while continuing to advance the Silver Line project.”

Construction is scheduled to end Jan. 24, 2025. For more information about the Silver Line project, go to www.dart.org/silverline.
