The University of Texas at Dallas announced Jan. 31 that it is halting all travel to China due to the multinational outbreak of coronavirus.

“For the sake of the university community, UT Dallas has suspended all university-related travel to China for students and employees until further notice,” the statement read.

The university was unable to provide information regarding how many students or faculty members will be impacted by this decision.

The respiratory illness was first identified in Wuhan, China. There have been six positive cases of coronavirus in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which are closely monitoring the outbreak.

As of Jan. 30, the World Health Organization labeled the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

There are currently no known cases within the UT Dallas community. The university is directing students with specific questions to contact the International Risk and Safety Office at 972-883-4042.
