Chick-fil-A could expand its drive-thru lanes at the Campbell Road location in Richardson.

The City Planning Commission voted to recommend approval to Richardson City Council for a new special permit for the restaurant.

The details

The new permit will allow the restaurant to expand from two lanes that merge into one to three lanes that merge into two lands. The new lane will be for mobile pickup orders only.

Additionally, the new permit will also increase the number of cars that can stack in the drive-thru from 16 to 27, according to city documents.

Because the new permit would require the company to acquire additional land for the new lane, the current site plan will require a replatt, Assistant Director of Development Services Andrew Bogda said. The replatt will also require approval from the planning commission and City Council.

The background

In a letter to city staff, Permit Lead for architecture firm Interplan LLC said the permit is needed because much of Chick-fil-A’s business at the location occurs in the drive thru. If approved, the functionality of the drive-thru will be improved without eliminating any of the restaurant’s parking. To ensure the restaurant will maintain a requirement of 40 parking space, two parking spaces will be relocated to the east side of the building.

What’s next

Council will have final approval of the new permit and will hear the case at an upcoming meeting.
