Construction is set to begin soon on the new Richardson City Hall after city council approved a contract to McCownGordon Construction at the Jan. 13 meeting. Council approved construction plans at the Jan. 6 meeting.

The details

The total budget is $91 million and includes $65.4 million for construction. Other budgetary items are $10.2 million for “soft costs” that include public art displays, $6.4 million for equipment and furnishings and about $850,000 in demolition costs. Additionally, $6.7 million is budgeted for relocation and $1.8 million for escalation and contingencies.

About the project

After a fire occurred in city hall in August 2021, a bond referendum was approved by voters in May 2023, funding the project. The new city hall is approximately 98,500 square-feet located on the existing municipal campus, according to city documents.


Construction is set to begin in March and be completed in early 2027.
