Richardson’s population has gotten younger from 2018 to 2023, according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The details

Overall, the total population increased by about 4,000 people in the five-year span, data shows.

Dallas County and Collin County both showed population increases as well, with Dallas County increasing from around 2.59 million residents in 2018 to over 2.6 million residents in 2023.

Collin County's population increased from 944,350 to nearly 1.12 million over the same time period.


What else?

In addition to population growth, the data showed the median age of Richardson residents decreased from 36 years of age to 34 years of age.

The most populous group of Richardson residents are those aged 25-34 at 21,355, making up 12.7% of the city’s population. In 2018, the city’s population of the same age group was 17,319.


The background


The new five-year data for 2023, released by the bureau on Dec. 12, 2024, is part of the American Community Survey, or ACS. The data is collected by the bureau monthly via interviews, mail and the internet and represents a five-year estimate of the country’s population from 2019 to 2023, according to the bureau website.
