The city of Richardson’s racial makeup continues to diversify, according to data released by the US Census Bureau.

The gist

The total population in Richardson rose from 114,402 in 2018 to 118,269 in 2023. More than half of Richardson residents—about 55.8%—identified as white, which is down from 2018 when 67.4% of the population identified as white. In total, the population identifying as white has decreased by nearly 10,000.

The city’s Hispanic population, which is an ethnicity rather than race, is the second most populous at 17.4%, increasing by nearly 1,000 from 2018.

The data is collected by the bureau monthly via interviews, mail and the internet, and represents a five-year estimate of the country’s population from 2019 to 2023, according to the census website.
