In an effort to promote businesses within the Eastside development, Stewart Korte of Precision Investments, which owns the property, proposed a master sign plan to Richardson City Council during a Dec. 16 meeting.

The overview

The development is located at 700 E. Campbell Road, and the proposed plan would have allowed three sign types to be used, according to city documents.

The first sign proposed is a monument sign, or a freestanding sign that sits low to the ground and is located along the US 75 frontage road, per the documents. The sign’s purpose is to advertise businesses located within the development.

The second proposed sign is a wall-mounted electronic messaging sign, facing the DART rail line and N. Central Expressway. Korte said the purpose of the sign is to advertise businesses and events within the development, adding no third-party organizations would be allowed to buy advertisements on the sign.

The third proposed sign is an electronic messaging pedestrian directory sign with three locations within the central open space area. The signs will be interactive touchscreen displays meant for foot traffic.

The action taken

Ultimately, council approved the master sign plan with one modification, denying the electronic messaging sign facing N. Central Expressway. Council was concerned about what advertisements might show up on the sign.

If council approved the sign plan, they would not be able to regulate the content, City Manager Don Magner said.
