The action taken
The CPC voted to recommend approval on three zoning cases. The first was for a special permit for a childcare center located at 3501 Murphy Road, in an area currently zoned for retail. The special permit is needed because the current childcare facility operating in the space, Whistle Stop Station, will operate as The Pillars Christian Learning Center.
The commission also voted to recommend a request to rezone a 3-acres lot located west of Jupiter Road and north of Belt Line Road, from retail zoning designated LR-M(2) to PD Planned Development zoning to accommodate a 36-unit townhome development known as Duck Creek Villas.
Lastly, the commission voted to recommend a zoning change for 4.08-acres located at 601 E. Main Street to a planned development district for a townhome development with 38-units called Valencia Villas.
Also on the agenda
Commissioners also voted to recommend approval to a proposed master sign plan for the Eastside mixed use development. Richardson City Council approved an amendment to the Eastside planned development to accommodate a master sign plan and asked the City Plan Commission to review the plan and then present it to council for the final approval.
According to city documents, the proposed master sign plan establishes consistency for the mixed-use development, while allowing flexibility and creativity.
The master sign plan identifies three proposed types of signs within the development:
- Monument signs
- Wall mounted electronic messaging signs
- Electronic messaging pedestrian directory signs
The Richardson City Council will have final approval on the zoning cases and will hear them at a later meeting.
