Richardson staff will hand out tree saplings at several events this year to help replace lost tree cover because of severe weather damage in May, according to a news release.

Individuals can collect a sapling as part of the Richardson Replants program, which was launched by Richardson City Council in July.

Two-minute impact

Individuals must provide proof of residency in Richardson and there is a limit of one tree sapling per household, per the release. City staff will hand out saplings for three different species: Chinkapin Oak, Desert Willow and Peach.

In addition to handing out trees, city staff plan to plant 18 new trees in Glenville Park Nov. 1 because of Texas Arbor Day, according to the news release. The plantings will be done in conjunction with a nonprofit organization, One Earth One Chance.
