Richardson City Council provided direction to staff on goals that will form the basis of strategies and tactics aimed at bettering the city.

Rick Robinson, Ramsee Consultant Group managing director, provided an overview of the goals during the Oct. 16 meeting. The goals are refreshed every two years, he said.

The overview

The refresh of the goals takes place as the council attempts to direct staff on ways to improve the experience of current and prospective Richardson residents. As part of the update, council members also added two new strategies, which were included in Robinson’s presentation.

Council will proceed with several goals:
  • Effectively, efficiently and transparently manage city resources
  • Have companies and individuals choose Richardson as the best place to locate, contribute and engage
  • Have well-trained, engaged and innovative employees who deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • Have clear, continuously improved policies that make it easy for all stakeholders to interact with the city

Additionally, Robinson presented 13 strategies, two of which were new, that were developed as part of the goal-setting process. The strategies focused on maintaining a healthy fund balance and strong bond rating, attracting high-quality employees, and promoting ways for public engagement and input.

The two new strategies were focused on economic development and ways to attract residents:
  • Continue exploring unique opportunities to attract and retain residents
  • Promote economic development that benefits the whole city
“We appreciate your hard work and commitment to the city of Richardson to make us better, transparent and more efficient,” Mayor Bob Dubey said.

What else?

The goals will be formalized with a view on finalizing the adoption of said goals and strategies during the Oct. 23 meeting. A set of tactics for addressing each strategy will be presented to council in November.
