A ballot error impacting Richardson voters in Dallas County is expected to be corrected by 8 a.m. on April 23.
Depending on address, some Richardson voters are experiencing a ballot error, preventing them from voting in the uncontested races for City Council Place 1 through 4, according to a news release from the city.
The cause was identified as a coding error, and Dallas County staff are distributing updated programming to correct the ballot on voting machines, according to an updated release.
The details
Ballots distributed at Dallas County polling locations are displaying City Council Places 1 through 4 as single-member districts rather than at-large districts. Because of this, voters are only seeing races that correspond to their home addresses in those districts.
All City Council Places, including the Mayoral race, should appear on every ballot.
What you need to know
Collin County voters are not affected by the error, per the release. Officials have contacted the Dallas County Elections Department concerning the mistake and have requested details regarding the process and timeline to correct the error. However, a correction will not be in place before the end of the day Tuesday, the release said.
Place 6 and the Mayoral race are the only contested races but because of the issue, voters do not have the opportunity to cast a vote or abstain in some of the uncontested races, because of their address.
What else?
Early voting for Richardson residents in both Collin and Dallas County began April 22 and runs through April 25 between 8 p.m. and 5 p.m.; April 26 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; April 27 from noon-6 p.m.; and April 28 and April 29 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
If needed, a runoff election will be held June 7.
