Jamee Jolly and Mihaela Elizabeth Plesa won their respective parties' nominations for Texas state representative District 70 seat during the May 24 primary runoff elections, according to the final Collin County voting results. Results are unofficial until votes are canvassed by the county.

The final results showed Jolly defeated opponent Eric J. Bowlin for the Republican nomination, receiving more than 52% of the vote compared to Bowlin's just under 48%.

"I'm so proud of our campaign team and our volunteers, [who] worked really hard to reach every single voter," Jolly said to Community Impact Newspaper after the final results from McKinney were announced. "With this being an open seat, the biggest challenge we had from the very beginning was just making sure people knew that they were in this new district. I'm very happy with our results and very thankful for the support from our community and voters in District 70."

Meanwhile, Plesa received more than 55% of the vote to win the Democratic nomination for Texas state representative District 70 over Cassandra Garcia Hernandez, who received a little less than 45%. Plesa could not immediately be reached for comment May 24.

Jolly and Plesa will next face off in the Nov. 8 general election.

Among the other races Richardson voters cast ballots in on May 24, Antonio Swad won the Republican primary for the U.S. House of Representatives District 32 seat over Justin Webb. Swad received nearly 57% of the votes counted to the just over 43% collected by Webb.

In the runoff race for the Republican nomination for Collin County District Clerk, Mike Gould defeated opponent Lynne Finley with more than 54% of the votes cast. Finley finished with nearly 46% of the votes cast.


Randy Johnson won the Republican nomination for Collin County Court at Law No. 5 with more than 59% of the votes cast. His opponent, Jimmy Angelino, finished with just under 41%.


In the Democratic nomination for the Collin County Democratic Party Chair, Caroline Werner won with more than 55% of the ballots cast. Opponent Mike Rawlins finished with less than 45%.


In Dallas County races, John F. Warren won the race for the Democratic nomination for the Dallas County Clerk race. According to unofficial results, Warren received nearly 59% of the votes counted, while opponent Ann Cruz had just over 41%.


In the runoff race for the Democratic nomination for Dallas County commissioner, Precinct 2, Andrew Sommerman defeated Michelle Ocker, with more than 63% of the vote compared to nearly 37%, respectively.


According to unofficial results, Jan McDowell won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House of Representatives District 24 with nearly 53% to Derrik Gay's just over 47%.
