Updated Feb. 22 at 9:41 a.m.: This story has been updated to reflect Guillermo Colón's withdrawl from the race in District 2.

The ballot has been set for the May 7 Richardson ISD board of trustees election, with eight candidates running for three available seats. Positions up for contention include single-member districts 2, 4 and 5, though only two of the three races are contested.

Board President Regina Harris is running unopposed in her re-election bid for District 4, cementing her second term on the board. A total of four candidates are vying for the single-member District 2 seat, including incumbent board member Eron Linn, who was first elected in 2015. Other candidates for the District 2 seat include Sherry Clemens, Vanessa Pacheco and Walter Turner.

The three candidates running in the single-member District 5 race are Kile Brown, Rachel McGowan and Jan Stell. The District 5 seat has remained vacant since Sept. 24 after former President Karen Clardy resigned by way of a letter sent to former Superintendent Jeannie Stone and her fellow board trustees.

Residents are still allowed to enter the election as a write-in candidate until Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.

Board members in the school district serve three-year staggered terms and are not subject to term limits. Five of the seven seats on the board are chosen by registered voters of specific districts, while the remaining two seats are elected at large. This voting system is the result of a lawsuit settled in early 2019 that accused the board of Voting Rights Act violations. Early voting for the May 7 election is scheduled to take place April 25-May 3.
