Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, a bus badge will be required for all Richardson ISD students who ride a school bus to and from campuses.

The details

Students must scan their badge when they board and exit a bus, according to a news release from the district.

The new requirement is part of district staff’s ongoing effort to prioritize student safety. The measure is designed to help ensure students are on their assigned bus route and provide a quick response in the event of delays, route changes or emergencies, per the release.

What else

The district will issue one badge for students in third through 12th grade. Pre-K through second graders will be issued two badges.

If a student loses their badge, one replacement will be given for free. Any additional badges will cost $3 to replace.

During the first few weeks of school, transportation staff will make accommodations for students who forget to wear their badge.
