Rachel McGowan won the Richardson ISD board of trustees District 5 seat, according to unofficial results reported in Dallas County.

Three candidates were on the ballot in the single-member District 5 race: account executive McGowan, business developer Kile Brown and realtor Jan Stell. McGowan has received 2,962 votes, which is 51.01% of the votes. Stell came in second in the race with 2,221 votes, or 38.25%, while Brown is third with 624 votes, or 10.75%.

Heading into the election, McGowan told Community Impact Newspaper that she was running for the board position in order to give back for the community.

"I started elementary school at Stults Road Elementary and graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1996," she said. "My personal experience in this community, my ability to build strong relationships and trust quickly, and my business background will make me a strong trustee. If elected, I hope to bring the conversation in the boardroom back to student outcomes."

The District 5 seat has been vacant since September 2021 when former President Karen Clardy resigned by way of a letter sent to former Superintendent Jeannie Stone and her fellow trustees.

Dallas County reported 91,571 ballots cast countywide, which is 6.56% turnout of the county's more than 1.39 million registered voters.
