A new indoor golf simulation concept, BirdieBay Golf, could soon be opening its doors in Richardson.

Richardson City Council approved a special permit for the business, which will be located at 1002 N. Central Expressway, Ste. 579, at its Oct. 14 meeting.

In a nutshell

Tulsa-based BirdieBay plans to fill nearly 4,000 square feet of leased space within one of the buildings located at 1002 N. Central Expressway. According to city documents, the venue would have five bays, a pro shop, and a bar area that will serve light food, alcoholic beverages and nonalcoholic beverages.

Peter Weldon, the franchisee for the Richardson location, said the business may also look to partner with nearby restaurants to offer outside food on select days.

The bays within BirdieBay could be rented hourly, with players able to choose from different minigames or a more traditional golf experience, Weldon said. The business utilizes ball tracking and simulation technology called Golfzon.

Some context

The development proposal was previously recommended for approval by the city plan commission during its Sept. 19 meeting.

Standard language restricting the permit to BirdieBay and limiting the use within the leased space were also included as conditions of approval in the zoning case.

What’s else?

Along with partnering with local restaurants, BirdieBay also works with nonprofit organizations assisting veterans to provide free golf sessions Monday evenings, according to a council presentation.

In a letter submitted to the city plan commission, BirdieBay previously provided a timeline to open in late 2024 or early 2025.
