An additional 249 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Dallas County, according to a May 8 press release.

Ten more people have died from the virus, the press release stated. They ranged from a Duncanville man in his 40s to a Garland man in his 90s. Among the reported deaths is a Richardson woman in her 60s who was a resident of a long-term care facility and had been hospitalized, according to the release.

The latest numbers bring Dallas County's total confirmed cases to 5,369 and a total of 135 deaths, the release stated.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins advised the public to avoid unnecessary crowds, maintain social distancing, practice good hygiene and wear a face mask in public.

“Today ties for the deadliest day in Dallas County and is four cases below our previous high for most positive cases,” Jenkins said in the release. “Additionally, COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU trends have not declined.”
