Two incumbents and five newcomers have filed for a position on the Richardson ISD board of trustees.
The Nov. 5 election will be the first under the district's new majority single-member district electoral system. The change is the result of a
Voting Rights Act violation lawsuit settled earlier this year.
Districts 2, 4 and 5 will appear on the November ballot. Trustees
Eron Linn and
Karen Clardy will run for re-election in districts 2 and 5, respectively. Only Linn will face a challenger in newcomer
Vanessa Pacheco.
Four candidates have filed to run for the District 4 seat vacated Aug. 16 by former trustee Katie Patterson. Those newcomers include
Regina Harris,
Sakennia Reed,
Taler Jefferson and
Patricia Ann Hicks.
District 4 has been designated by RISD as an "opportunity district," or an area where a majority of minority-race voters reside.
Early voting begins Oct. 21 and continues until Nov. 1. Election Day is Nov. 5.
