Construction for an expanded distilling operation by Richardson-based Lockwood Distilling Company is expected to start later this year.

The new distillery is planned for a property along South Sherman Street within a former Thunderbird Roller Rink. Construction of the facility has an estimated $1.3 million cost, according to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The distillery is expected to have around 20 employees, company representatives previously told city officials, and construction is expected to finish in late March next year. The facility will house liquor production and bottling equipment and storage space for products, per documents filed with the state.
