The soccer field at the Richardson Family YMCA will be renovated to improve drainage ahead of the fall soccer season, which will impact nearly 4,000 youth athletes.

Samantha Buehler, executive director of the Richardson Family YMCA, said a $75,000 donation was received from Richardson resident James Watson that will pay for work on the soccer field.

Buehler said the work will prioritize implementing better drainage because water sometimes pools on the field after rain. She added that work funded through the donation will include:
  • Regrading an area of the field
  • Installing a new irrigation system
  • Adding new grass and netting on the field
  • Upgrading the overall maintenance and upkeep of the soccer field
During the reseeding of the grass, no activities will take place to allow for the necessary growth, Buehler said. Construction is expected to begin in late May and conclude in late August or early September, ahead of the fall soccer season.
