Celina officials are considering opening a storefront in the city’s Downtown Center to be branded as a retail and experiential space to serve as a hub and community destination.

The Celina Economic Development Corporation discussed the proposed space at its meeting May 6.

The details

City officials hope to celebrate Celina’s identity through branded merchandise and storytelling at this new storefront, according to city documents. They also aim to use it as the city’s first retail incubation space to help support local businesses and feature local artists.

Businesses will also have micro-booth opportunities at the new space. Vendors taking advantage of these opportunities would be rotated out monthly or seasonally.

The general goal is to drive increased foot traffic downtown, support entrepreneurship and give Celina visitors an even better experience. The space could act as an informational center for downtown attractions and events.

Once launched, staffing support would be managed by the Celina EDC. Volunteers could be used during peak hours, according to city documents.

What’s next?

First, the EDC will need to give approval to move forward with the project.

From there, officials will need to come up with the framework for the local artist and vendor programs, and confirm the overall structure of the operation.
