Traffic crashes in Plano have decreased by 2.5% year to year from 2024 to 2025, according to the Plano Police Department.
The department provided an overview about the latest traffic data for the city at a joint meeting with the city of Plano and Plano ISD on April 30.

The city had a crash rate of 17.89 crashes per 1,000 residents in 2025, according to Plano Police Department data. Plano Police Chief Ed Drain said the department determines the significance of a decrease in the city’s crash rate based on the five previous years.
“Whether we’re talking about crashes, whether we’re talking about crime, those things can’t go down every year,” he said. “We actually do a five-year look back, and if we’re within that medium, then we’ve met our objective.”
The city saw a total of 5,356 traffic crashes in 2025, Drain said.

Drain said even though the Dallas North Tollway in Plano has a higher traffic volume, US 75 had more crash hot spots in 2025. Fatal crashes have decreased by 6.7% from 2024 to 2025, per the department’s data, but injury crashes have increased by 3.9%.
The Plano Police Department uses traffic safety data as one of four aspects to measure the department’s performance. Other performance metrics include the city’s crime rate, timely service and quality of service.
