One section of a Plano roadway will have various lane closures for about a month as part of a larger pavement repair project.

The project along Alma Drive, between Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road, is focused on pavement repair on various lanes of the road, according to the city’s website.

The overview

During work on the project, two lanes of the road are expected to be closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily while one lane is closed at all hours. Assistant Director of Public Works Carrie Jones said the pavement repair project is being completed in anticipation of an asphalt overlay.

Construction of the project has been funded through the city’s capital maintenance fund, with over $935,000 spent so far. Jones said costs will continue to increase as the work order for the project has not been completed.

“Our arterial requirements projects are work-order-based locations which allow us to move to smaller sections of arterial roadways for repairs that don’t need a full project for repairs,” Jones said.

She added that the work order locations, such as the segment of Alma Drive between Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road, are contracted out to vendors that provide higher quality concrete and larger traffic control than city-paid work crews.

What’s next?

Crews are expected to work on Alma Drive between Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road until mid-April, weather permitting, Jones said. Further updates on capital projects are available on the city’s website.
