The speed limit along a Plano segment of Preston Road between Legacy Drive and SH 121 has been lowered following a traffic study conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation.

According to a Dec. 28 Facebook post by the Plano Police Department, TxDOT crews replaced existing speed limit signs within the segment of Preston Road in northern Plano. Plano City Council adopted an ordinance during its Sept. 26 meeting to lower the speed limit to 45 mph from 55 mph, which aligned with TxDOT’s recommendation from an engineering study.

The context

According to a memo provided to council, city engineering staff found the request to lower the speed limit, which resulted from the TxDOT engineering study, was warranted. Per the memo, the speed limit along Preston Road between Legacy Drive and SH 121 had remained unchanged from 55 mph since 1989.
