A few road projects will get underway soon after contracts for the work were approved by Plano City Council.

Approved projects from the Aug. 14 meeting include construction along roads intersecting with Legacy Drive and a corridor of neighborhood roads in northern Plano. The projects join Evans Park as infrastructure projects approved during the meeting.

The big picture

Improvements will be made at three intersections along Legacy Drive with the intent of reducing traffic congestion.
  • Independence Parkway and Legacy Drive will have left-turn lanes added for all four directions of travel.
  • Custer Road and Legacy Drive will have left-turn lanes added for all four directions, and a free right-turn lane on westbound Legacy Drive to northbound Custer Road will be built.
  • K Avenue and Legacy Drive will get a free right-turn lane on westbound Legacy Drive to the US 75 northbound access road, removals of the railroad crossing east of the US 75 service road, a northbound through lane along K Avenue south of Legacy Drive, a right-turn lane from eastbound Legacy Drive to southbound K Avenue and a southbound through lane along K Avenue north of Legacy Drive.
The cost of the projects will total $4.2 million, according to city documents.

Some residential zones will also have roads, sidewalks and barrier-free ramps as part of a nearly $4.55 project in the city. The scope of work for these projects has a northern boundary of Hedgcoxe Road, a southern boundary of USA Drive, a western boundary of Custer Road and an eastern boundary of Prescott Drive, according to a memo given to council.

By the numbers

In the residential repair zones, the following will be addressed:
  • 24,500 square yards of residential concrete streets and alleys
  • 150,000 square feet of sidewalks
  • 199 barrier-free ramps
