Dallas Area Rapid Transit extended its pilot program that allows riders using certain support assistance programs to receive discounted rates through the end of the year.

The Discount GoPass Tap Card gives riders who qualify 50% off the regular price of a DART pass, according to a news release.

All new and current DART riders who participate in the Children’s Health Insurance Program; Texas Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program; the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; Housing Choice Vouchers; the DHA Housing Solutions for North Texas program; Medicaid; Medicare; or the Texas Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children are eligible for the discount card, the release states.

The Discount GoPass Tap Card can be used on any DART bus or train, according to the transit agency's website.

DART began the program last year. The transit agency announced the extension of the program through Dec. 31 in late March.

More information and registration for the discount program are available at www.dart.org/tapforhalf or at the DARTmart store at DART Headquarters, 1401 Pacific Ave., Dallas.
