1. Discussion of DART fare increases

With the elimination of DART’s day pass, as well as an increase to existing fares, the public transportation organization will host a series of public meetings throughout the North Texas area, with one hearing in Plano at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Plano Municipal Center, 1520 K Ave. The meetings will be followed by a public hearing hosted by DART on June 27 at the DART Boardroom, 1401 Pacific Ave., Dallas.

2. Guinness world record attempt

Plano will be participating in a global initiative to teach children how to swim, while also attempting to break the Guinness world record. Available for free to children 6 years old and older, everyone who registers will be given a certificate following completion of the lesson. A representative from the World Waterpark Association will be in attendance to report the attendance numbers to Guinness World Records. The event will take place from 8 - 8:50 a.m on June 22 at Jack Carter Outdoor Pool, 2601 Pleasant Valley Drive.

3. Pizza Girl On Wheels opens

As the latest addition to Hub Streat’s in-house restaurants, Pizza Girl On Wheels is expected to have its premier on June 30 at 1212 E. 14th St. The pizza shop will offer a variety of flatbread and wood-fired pizzas in conjunction with Hub Streat’s other restaurant, Joe Spud’s Burgers & Fries.

4. Property maintenance workshop 

The city of Plano's property standards department held a workshop on April 1 to inform residents about the most effective ways to maintain their properties while avoiding code violations. On June 24, the second workshop of its kind this year will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Haggard Library, 2501 Coit Road.
