A new 280-foot antenna sculpture is planned for the AT&T headquarters coming to Plano.
Plano’s Planning and Zoning commission unanimously approved setbacks for the sculpture and new property boundaries for the headquarters at a meeting May 4.
The details
The new sculpture will be located on the southeast corner of Parkwood Boulevard and Legacy Drive with the possibility of a stealth commercial antenna at any height within the structure, per city documents.
Bill Dahlstrom, a Dallas-based attorney, spoke on behalf of the project developers May 4.
“We think this is a great project for a great campus for a great city,” he said. “We’re really excited about this.”
Plano Senior Planner John Kim said all structures above 200 feet must also receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. He said flashing, strobing, rotating and chasing light effects from the tower will be prohibited between 10 p.m.-6 a.m.
The sculpture will be located at a public plaza planned at the headquarters with hike and bike trails and 7-foot sidewalks.
The background
Plano City Council approved two economic development agreements Feb. 23 to provide $20 million in financial incentives for AT&T to establish the company’s global headquarters in the Legacy District.
If AT&T meets the required benchmarks of the economic incentives, the company would become Plano’s second-largest employer behind JPMorgan Chase, per previous reporting.
