The Plano Planning and Zoning Commission will likely consider a request to rescind specific use permits and rezone nearly 90 acres within Willow Bend Mall—home to over 100 stores—in early 2024.

The planning and zoning commission tabled the zoning case during its Dec. 4 meeting. If granted, the request would amend the planned zoning to regional commercial and eliminate the specific use permits that would have allowed for private club and vehicle leasing uses.

The overview

A request to table consideration of the zoning case was made to allow the developer more time to gather feedback about proposed redevelopment within Willow Bend Mall, according to a letter from the developer included in the commission's agenda packet. In addition to the zoning case, the developer will need approval of both a concept plan and open space plan.

In the letter to the commission, the applicant also indicated that changes to the proposed development could be incorporated based on feedback gathered ahead of the case’s consideration next year.

What’s next?

The planning and zoning commission will likely hear the zoning case during its Jan. 16, 2024 meeting.
