Raise Your Hand Texas will be hosting two forums for candidates vying for seats in the Texas House of Representatives for Districts 61 and 70.

These events are part of a series of nonpartisan educational candidate events for the Nov. 8 election. The forums will operate as meet-and-greet events for residents and candidates. Food and beverages will be provided.

The forums are sponsored by Austin-based Raise Your Hand Texas, an advocacy organization working to improve public education.

The new boundaries for state House District 61, approved last year as part of redistricting, include portions of Frisco, McKinney and northern Collin County. Networking begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the McKinney ISD Community Event Center, 4201 S. Hardin Blvd. in McKinney, and the District 61 candidate forum starts at 6:30 p.m.

In District 70, Republican candidate Jamee Jolly will face Democrat Mihaela Plesa on the November ballot. District 70 covers portions of Plano, Allen and Dallas.
