The Plano ISD board of trustees recognized six new school principals and a new director of the Charmaine Solomon Adult Transition Center at its Aug. 2 meeting.

Among the new principals introduced by district staff were two at district middle schools and four new elementary school principals.

“When you join the Plano ISD family, you’re inheriting a support system and not just a support system around the [board] dais, but a support system of all of our teams across the district,” Superintendent Theresa Williams said at the meeting. “We’re here for kids, and we’re here to support you in your new role. ... We are so grateful and so proud of all of you.”

John Tedford was introduced as the new principal at Armstrong Middle School, and Katie Brittain was welcomed as the new principal at Frankford Middle School. Tedford was formerly an assistant principal at Clark High School, according to the district website. Brittain is a former principal at Rose Haggar Elementary, the site states.

The new elementary school principals introduced at the meeting were Hughston Elementary Principal Jennifer Caplinger, Rose Haggar Elementary Principal Amy Weems, Hickey Elementary Principal M'Cheyl Herrera and Mathews Elementary Principal Wendy Miller.

Caplinger is the former principal at Barksdale Elementary School; Weems formerly was assistant principal at Davis Elementary School; Herrera is a former assistant principal at Daffron Elementary School; and Miller was previously an assistant principal at Bethany Elementary School.

Gwendolyn Johnston has been on the staff at the Solomon Center since 2018. The transition center provides skills-based training and employment opportunities to its students.

District students are slated to return to campuses Aug. 10.
