Thirty-three of Plano ISD's campuses sustained damages due to the winter storms the week of Feb. 15.
Water damage and HVAC, plumbing and electrical issues affected these campuses in different levels of severity, PISD shared in an email update Feb. 19. Four other district facilities were also affected by the storms.
All but five of 33 affected campuses will resume in-person and School@Home learning operations Feb. 22. Barksdale Elementary School, Gulledge Elementary School, Hickey Elementary School, Sigler Elementary School and Clark High School sustained more significant damage, making a shift to asynchronous learning necessary, the district shared in an update Feb. 21.
Plano ISD's staff worked to prevent and fix any damages to district buildings throughout the week of extreme temperatures and power outages, a Feb. 19 update said, and the district was confident any remaining damages could be addressed over the weekend by maintenance crews and restoration teams. However, further assessments at five campuses showed that additional time would be needed to resume regular operations.
Curbside meals will be adjusted for lost preparation time while the district was closed the week of Feb. 15.
A single morning pickup will be available Tuesday, Feb. 23, for School@Home learners from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at regular pickup locations. These meal bundles will contain two days of breakfast and lunch meals for Feb. 24-25, per the update.
A pickup with five days of breakfast and lunch meals will also take place Thursday, Feb. 25, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and from 4:45-6 p.m. at the regular pickup locations.
The district expects regular curbside meal distribution to resume March 2, the release said.
PISD closed its school campuses and administrative buildings Feb. 11. Following a student holiday Feb. 15-16, the district closed its schools and facilities from Feb. 17-19 due to continued inclement weather, unsafe driving conditions and power outages.
