With the start of October, Plano is kicking off the month with community events for the whole family. Here are three things going on Oct. 3-9.
1. National Night Out
The purpose of this annual event, hosted by the
National Association of Town Watch, is for neighbors to leave their porch lights on and interact with neighbors and the Plano Police Department. This year, there are 57 neighborhoods participating in National Night Out, including Kings Ridge and the Texas Pool, 901 Springbrook Drive. Officer David Tilley said Kings Ridge is the biggest neighborhood gathering with about 300 people, a parade, face painting, food and more. Block parties and activities usually begin at 6 p.m. and end at about 9:30 p.m.
2. Plano ISD school board meeting
During this week's meeting, the school board will vote on bids, purchases and construction, including re-roofing Hughston Elementary School and repairing musical instruments and electronic equipment. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Plano ISD Administration Building, 2700 W. 15th St. The agenda can be found
here.
3. Plano Public Safety PULLooza
The first Plano Public Safety PULLooza will take place Oct. 8 at the Oak Point Amphitheatre parking lot and event field, 2801 E. Spring Creek Parkway. This free safety fair also includes a tug-of-war competition with a 72,000-pound fire truck. The team with the fastest pull and most money raised will be named Fire Truck Pull Challenge Champions. All proceeds go toward Special Olympics Texas. Other activities at the event include a kid’s fire obstacle course, helicopter landing, food trucks, finger painting, a Police SWAT demonstration and more.
