A zoning case was approved that would allow for a new car dealership in Plano to be constructed along the Dallas North Tollway.

Plano City Council approved a specific-use permit request that would allow for the development of a new Porsche dealership during the Jan. 8 meeting. Representatives of the project referred to it as Destination Porsche, which is set to be located along the southwest corner Tennyson Parkway and Dallas Parkway.

The gist

Representatives for the project said the existing Porsche Plano dealership located along Plano Parkway and operated by AutoNation would be relocated to the new location. Plans for the project include a five-story parking structure and service area along with a two-story showroom and office space within the over 5-acre property.

Harry Brumley, director of real estate for AutoNation, said the relocation will allow AutoNation to redevelop its Audi dealership next to the existing Porsche facility, while potentially adding another user in the future.

“Once we’re done and we move Porsche, then we can address Audi and grow both franchises,” Brumley said.

What else?

Director of Planning Christina Day said auto dealerships can be hard to redevelop, which is why staff emphasized development that was more complementary to surrounding uses along the tollway.

According to city documents, the five-story structure would be divided between a two-story showroom and three-story parking garage where vehicles would be stored instead of on surface lots.
