A number of organizations have created more frequent events to give away food to those in need during the new coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, some organizations are hosting events to collect food donations.

Here are three food giveaway events and two donation drives happening in and around Plano from May 14-17.

Food giveaways:

  • Minnie's Food Pantry will distribute family meal boxes from 1-3 p.m. while supplies last at Bowman Middle School, 2501 Jupiter Road, Plano. Any family in need is welcome to come. Distributions will take place in the parking lot at the back of the building, according to Plano ISD.

  • The Islamic Association of Collin County will give out food boxes during two events in Plano at 6401 Independence Parkway. The first will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. May 16, and the second will be from noon-2 p.m. May 17. Each food box is filled with roughly 50 pounds of essential food, according to a release in early May. The event is open for all, the release said.
