Activate Games held a grand opening event for its new Plano location at 5013 W. Plano Parkway on April 19 and 20.

Activate offers a large variety of high-tech games that blend digital and physical activities. A visit can last 75 minutes, with games taking anywhere from 1-3 minutes each. Scores are tracked throughout a visit by using an electronic wristband.

Owner Bryce Anderson called Activate “a new way to play.”

“Activate is a physical arcade that combines the best of video games and sports,” he said. “It’s like being placed inside of a video game, so people think, ‘Oh, I'm wearing a headset,’ but there's no headset. It's all physical, so you're touching physical buttons or stepping on physical tiles.”

The business also hosts birthday parties, corporate events, field trips and more, according to Anderson.

Activate now has eight existing or planned locations in the United States, including one coming soon to Houston, according to the company's website. Anderson is also the founder of Breakout Games, which has a Plano location at 2301 Central Expressway, Ste. 285.
