When April Prill made the jump from corporate America to owning a dog day care franchise in Plano, she said she fell in love with the environment, the people and, most importantly, the dogs.

Prill opened Camp Bow Wow’s Plano location in 2018 after having her own two dogs attend day care at the Coppell location for almost 10 years.

“It was the first time I’d ever heard of a dog day care facility, but it sounded cool,” Prill said. “I took my [great] Danes through their interview process and fell in love with the facility and with the owners who still run that camp.”

Camp Bow Wow is a luxury dog day care center. The facility accepts dogs of all sizes after an extensive interview process that shows whether each dog can cooperate with other playmates. Camp Bow Wow also offers overnight boarding and has video cameras stationed around the center so owners can check in on their pets.

“We continue to assess their behavior [after the interview] to make sure that they’re comfortable in the camp and want to be there,” Prill said. “Our camp counselors always try to create an environment that is safe, playful and fun for all involved.”

Prill said she received a lot of support from the owners of the Coppell franchise, which ultimately helped her decide to buy the Plano center.

“I just didn’t think that I wanted to retire in a corporate job,” Prill said. “I knew I loved my dogs and spoiled them like they were my children. And the more I talked to [the Coppell camp’s owners], the more I felt comfortable investing in this franchise.”

At the end of the day, Prill said she feels the most rewarded for making personal connections with the dogs and their owners.

“I love when we have puppies that come to camp and start in the small dog play yard, and then we get to see them graduate into big dogs and move into big dog play,” Prill said. “That’s always pretty rewarding.”
