A Plano-based nonprofit assisting adults with cognitive or developmental disabilities has brought Soap Hope, an online soap retailer, into its organization.

The nonprofit My Possibilities announced the merger April 8 and said Soap Hope will employ adults with disabilities in warehouse, shipping and assembly roles. Profits from soap sales will help to fund My Possibilities’ nonprofit work, according to a news release.

The soap retailer offers natural home and body products, which it delivers to customers throughout the country.

The merger was the result of about a year of planning between the two organizations, the release said.

The soap company will serve as part of curriculum for My Possibilities students.

Soap Hope is expected to be the first of several companies brought on board to help create revenue to support the nonprofit’s programming, Executive Director Michael Thomas said in a statement.

“Our [clients] are gaining firsthand work experience, proving that inclusive employment for people with disabilities works,” Thomas said. “We’re also demonstrating how a business can focus on its impact on the world as much as it does its profits.”
